The striking socks are knitted from cuff to toe. The eagle owl’s eyes are embroidered on afterward.
The Huuhkaja socks pattern was first published in the Beloved Patterns & Erik Bruun knitting magazine, inspired by Finnish graphic designer Erik Bruun’s iconic posters.

Leg circumference without stretching: 30 cm / 11.75˝
Leg length: 43 cm / 17˝
Foot length adjustable.
Yarn:
Lankava Mainio (75 % wool, 25 % polyamide, 260 m (284 yds) / 100 g)
MC: 655 Salty Liquorice, 2 balls or 390 m / 426 yds.
CC: 652 Fog, 1 ball or 156 m / 171 yds.
For embroidery, approx. 1 m / 2 yds of orange and 0.5 m / 1 yds of white yarn.
Needles:
3 mm / US 2.5 DPNs for colorwork and 2.5 mm / US 1.5 DPNs for ribbing and Stockinette Stitch.
Gauge:
27 sts × 27 rnds = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4˝ over Stockinette Stitch & colorwork in the round.
Notions:
Darning needle.
These socks are worked from the cuff down. The eyes will be embroidered at the end. Both socks are worked the same.
