Crochet Pattern: Vilja Basket (by Johanna Nuorela)

The basket is crocheted using the mosaic crochet technique.

The pattern for the Vilja basket was previously published in Beloved Patterns & Pentik knitting magazine, where the inspiration came from Pentik's decorative textiles and ceramics.

Yarn:

Novita Cotton Feel (100 % cotton, 120 m (131 yds) / 50 g)

MC: Soot 099, 3 balls

CC: Off-white 010, 1 ball

Note! The bottom of the basket is crocheted with main color.

Crochet hooks:

3 mm / D-3 and 4 mm / G-6. Or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge:

23 sts × 24 rnds = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4˝ over mosaic crochet pattern, 18 sts × 18 rows = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4˝ over single crochet stitches at the bottom of the basket.

General information:

The basket is crocheted with yarn held doubled and the mosaic crocheted edge with single yarn. When crocheting the bottom, the work is turned after each row, after which the work is continued in the round. The mosaic pattern is worked on the inside of the basket so that it will be on the outside when the work is turned. Always change colors at the first chain stitch of the round. At the end of the round, make a slip stitch into the first BLsc of the round, and make the first BLsc of the next round into the same stitch as the slip stitch.
