Terms of service
KOTONA SHOP: TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR ORDERS AND DELIVERY
General
Kotona Shop is an online store where customers can purchase, for example, home decor and home products. The online store is operated by A-lehdet Oy (“A-lehdet”), which also acts as the seller of the products offered in the online store (“Products”). These terms and conditions become binding on the parties when the customer (“Customer”) places an order in A-lehdet’s online store at https://shop.kotona.com (“Service”). These terms and conditions provide further information on, among other things, placing and paying for orders, as well as the rights provided under consumer protection legislation. Customers under the age of 18 require the consent of a guardian to place an order. Please read these terms carefully.
Provision and use of the online service
Provision of the Service. As a rule, the Service is available 24 hours a day, unless otherwise stated for a specific part of the Service, such as chat or customer service. A-lehdet provides no express or implied warranties regarding the operation or features of the Service and does not guarantee that the Service will operate without interruptions or errors. A-lehdet always has the right, at its discretion and without liability for compensation, to discontinue the provision of the Service in whole or in part, and to temporarily suspend the Service or any part of it for maintenance or other reasons.
Use of the Service. The Customer is granted a limited right to use the Service in accordance with these terms. The Customer is responsible for acquiring, installing and maintaining the hardware, software, telecommunications and data connections required to use the Service, as well as for all related costs.
Registration. The Customer may place orders either without registering or as a registered user. Any username created in connection with registration is personal and may not be transferred or disclosed to a third party. The Customer is responsible for all use and orders made using their username. If the username is lost or unlawfully obtained by a third party, the Customer must notify the Service’s customer service without delay.
Products and ordering
Products. A-lehdet sells home decor and home products, as well as various digital content products in electronic format, through the Service. A-lehdet is responsible for the sale of the Products to the Customer.
Placing an order. Products may be ordered through the Service. The agreement concerning a Product is formed between the Customer and A-lehdet in accordance with these terms and conditions. The Customer understands and accepts that placing an order entails an obligation to pay.
Order confirmation. A-lehdet will send an order confirmation to the email address provided by the Customer.
Delivery
Delivery confirmation. When the order is dispatched, the Customer will receive a delivery confirmation by email. The delivery confirmation includes a tracking number that allows the Customer to track the shipment.
Delivery. Products ordered through the Service are delivered either to a carrier’s pick-up point or to the Customer’s home address, depending on the size of the Product. The final pick-up point may change for reasons beyond the Service’s control, such as congestion at individual pick-up points. A delivery fee specified in the Service will be charged per order. The amount of the delivery fee may vary by product category. If an order contains several Products, the delivery fee will be determined by the highest delivery fee applicable to the product categories included in the order. Free delivery may also be offered for certain Products, or free delivery may be offered as part of a campaign in the Service.
Digital Products ordered through the Service are delivered immediately after the order has been placed. The Product can be downloaded from the order page and from the email sent to the Customer.
Delivery time. The delivery time depends on the Product, its availability and the delivery address. An estimated delivery time is provided in connection with the product description. If the ordered Product is temporarily out of stock, the Product will be delivered as soon as it becomes available again. If the ordered Product is not available at all, the Customer will be refunded in full for the price already paid for that Product, and the purchase will be considered cancelled with respect to that Product.
Digital Products ordered through the Service are delivered to the Customer immediately after the order has been placed.
Delivery restrictions. Physical Products are delivered to mainland Finland. At present, physical Products are not delivered to Åland. This delivery area restriction applies to, among other things, magazines, home decor products and craft supplies.
Digital Products are available worldwide.
Prices and payment
Prices. The prices of the Products are displayed in connection with the product descriptions. Prices include value added tax. The agreement is concluded based on the prices valid at the time of ordering. A-lehdet reserves the right to cancel an order if there is an obvious pricing error in the Product that the Customer should reasonably have understood to be incorrect.
Payment. The Products and their delivery costs are paid for in connection with the order. The payment and financing service provider purchases the payment and settles it to A-lehdet. From the Customer’s point of view, the service works in the same way as traditional online payment.
The available payment and financing service providers are:
Shopify Payments: Through Shopify Payments, the Service can accept payments using the most common credit cards, digital wallets and the Shop Pay payment method. The available payment methods may vary by country. The technical payment service provider is Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd.
Paytrail: Paytrail works in cooperation with Finnish banks and credit institutions. When paying in euros, the Customer may choose Paytrail as the payment method. The Service can accept payments via online bank payments, the most common credit cards and digital wallets. The payment recipient shown is Paytrail Oyj, business ID: 2122839-7, Innova 2, Lutakonaukio 7, 40100 Jyväskylä, Finland, telephone: +358 207 181830.
Right of cancellation
Right of cancellation. Under consumer protection legislation, the Customer has the right to cancel a distance sales order within fourteen (14) days of receiving the Product. The Product must be returned without delay and no later than fourteen (14) days after submitting the cancellation notice. The returned Product must be in saleable condition and unused, and the packaging must be intact. A-lehdet has the right to charge the Customer for the return costs. When the Customer cancels an order, the payment will be refunded to the Customer in accordance with consumer protection legislation. Return instructions are available from the Service’s customer service.
Absence of the right of cancellation. In accordance with consumer protection legislation, the right of cancellation does not apply, for example, to a Product that may quickly spoil or expire, or to a Product that is made or modified according to the Customer’s requirements or clearly personalised needs. In the case of Digital Products, the Customer accepts in connection with the order that the Digital Product will be delivered immediately after the order has been placed and that the right of cancellation does not apply. In addition to the examples mentioned above, other restrictions on the right of cancellation described in consumer protection legislation also apply.
Exercising the right of cancellation. The Customer may exercise their right of cancellation by submitting a notice on the Service’s return page, by contacting the Service’s customer service or by using the cancellation form available in the Service.
Uncollected Product. Products are returned to A-lehdet if they are not collected by the stated deadline. Returning a Product without a separate notice or failing to collect a parcel is not sufficient to constitute cancellation under consumer protection legislation. We reserve the right to charge the costs incurred from handling an uncollected shipment, such as return delivery costs and handling costs. If the Customer wishes to cancel a distance sales agreement and return the Product, the Customer must first collect the parcel and then cancel the order as described above.
Data protection
Processing of personal data. A-lehdet processes the Customer’s personal data in accordance with the Service’s privacy policy and cookie practices.
Complaints and liability
Complaints in case of errors. If a Product has not been delivered, the Customer has received the wrong Product or the Product is defective, we ask the Customer to contact A-lehdet as soon as possible through the Service’s customer service, the contact details of which are provided at the end of these terms.
A-lehdet’s liability. A-lehdet’s liability for the Service is primarily limited to redelivery of the Service. A-lehdet’s liability for the Products is limited to redelivery of the Product or, if this is not possible, alternatively to refunding the payment made for the Product. However, A-lehdet’s liability described above does not limit the Customer’s rights under mandatory consumer protection legislation.
Other terms
Terms of use. A-lehdet’s terms of use also apply to the use of the Service.
Changes. We continuously develop our operations and service selection, which is why it may be necessary for us to amend these terms and conditions. We will notify Customers of changes to these terms and conditions in the Service before they enter into force. The amended terms and conditions will apply to all new orders placed after the changes have entered into force.
Force majeure. The parties are released from their contractual obligations for the duration and to the extent that the failure to fulfil contractual obligations is due to force majeure. A force majeure event is considered to be an unusual and relevant event that prevents fulfilment of the agreement, occurs after the agreement has been concluded, is beyond the parties’ control and whose effects cannot reasonably be avoided or overcome. Such events include, for example, war, rebellion, requisition, interruption of energy supply, labour dispute, fire, thunderstorm or other natural phenomenon, or another comparable and unusual cause beyond the parties’ control.
Applicable law. These terms are governed by Finnish law, excluding its choice of law provisions.
Dispute resolution. We primarily aim to resolve any disputes through negotiations. Disputes that cannot be resolved amicably through negotiations will be handled by the District Court of Helsinki. Alternatively, the Customer may also bring an action before the competent court determined by the Customer’s domicile. As a consumer, the Customer may also have the possibility to refer a dispute to the Consumer Disputes Board (www.kuluttajariita.fi). Before referring the matter to the Consumer Disputes Board, you must contact the Consumer Advisory Services of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (www.kuluttajaneuvonta.fi).

To exercise your right of cancellation, you must inform us (A-lehdet Oy, business ID: 1708790-7, Risto Rytin tie 33, 00570 Helsinki, Finland, 00081, A-lehdet, shop@kotona.com) of your decision to cancel the agreement by an unequivocal statement, for example by email. You may use the attached cancellation form, but its use is not mandatory. You may also complete and submit the cancellation form or any other unequivocal statement electronically on our website at https://shop.kotona.com/pages/palautus. If you use this option, we will acknowledge receipt of your cancellation notice without delay in a durable manner, for example by email.
To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your notice of exercising the right of cancellation before the cancellation period expires.
Effects of cancellation
If you cancel the agreement, we will reimburse all payments received from you, including delivery costs, except for any additional costs resulting from your choice of a delivery method other than the least expensive standard delivery method offered by us, without delay and in any event no later than 14 days after we have received your cancellation notice. We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment that you used for the original transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise, and in any event in such a way that you will not incur any fees as a result of the reimbursement. We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or until you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods.
You must send back the goods without delay and no later than 14 days after submitting your cancellation notice. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the end of the 14-day period. You are responsible for the direct costs of returning the goods.
